Cocoplans joins 9th pre-need week

Joining the league of the pre-need firms, Cocoplans took part in the activities of the 9th Pre-need Consciousness Week last January 31 - February 6, 2010.

Cocoplans and Philippine Federation of Pre-need Plan Companies, Inc. (PFPPCI) President Caesar T. Michelena together with the officers of Cocoplans joined the week-long celebration of this year’s Pre-need Consciousness Week.

With the theme, “A New Beginning for a Brighter Tomorrow”, PFPPCI filled with hope and confidence in the industry, graced the occasion by a Thanksgiving Mass held at ABS-CBN Studio 5 last January 31. It was followed by a Pre-need Forum last February 3 at Makati Shangri-la Hotel which was participated by different pre-need firms.

Honorable Senator Eduardo J. Angara who was invited in the occasion gave his congratulations to the men and women of the pre-need industry. In his message, he commended the members of the Federation for the determination to grow stronger amidst the challenges in the pre-need sector.

Also, parts of the program were the welcome remarks given by the chairman of the 9th Pre-need Week, President and COO of Eternal Plans, Mr. Elmer Lorica and Pres. Michelena’s talk on the status of the pre-need industry which highlights the recently signed Pre-need Code of the Philippines. The law that will put a rest on the fears of industry instability as Pres. Michelena said also transfers Pre-need sector’s supervision from its former regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission to the Insurance Commission. Chairperson Fe B. Barin of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Insurance Commissioner Eduardo T. Malinis also gave their special messages.

“The year 2010 saw the birth of the Republic Act No. 9829, a law that spelled out in no uncertain terms the powers of regulator, the responsibilities of pre-need companies, and the rights of a planholder. You now have a new regulator insofar as your operations are concerned. It is my fervent wish that you will continue to be a vital partner of the Government in the development of the capital market, that you will remain steadfast in achieving your goals and consistent in your commitment to serve the Filipino people”, Chairperson Barin said.

Moreover, Insurance Commissioner Eduardo T. Malinis said that the IC is deeply honored to be the new regulating body of the pre-need industry. He also promised to support the industry in every endeavor it will take this year.

“As we face another challenging year, rest assured that the Commission will support you 100% by doing its part in ensuring a stable pre-need industry, starting with the new Pre-need Code of the Philippines as our guide. We are positive that the industry is on its way to full recovery this year and that it once again gain the trust of the public”, Insurance Commissioner Malinis said.

The week-long celebration was ended by an outreach program held last February 6 at Golden Acres Home for the Aged.
